Course Description: Introduces and reinforces all skills needed to live independently. It focuses on money, cooking, cleaning, self-advocacy, and anything that may need to be learned to live independently. Specific IEP goals will be addressed during this time.
Course Topics: Expenses, budgets, applications, cooking, cleaning, laundry, time management, communication, groups, inventories and exploration of locations to live
Grading Policy: Students receive 1-10 points weekly for effort and attitude (self advocacy and self determination) in activities, classroom assignments will be given and grades are assigned according to the grading scale published in the student handbook. Assignments will be scored
Freetime Activities: Students may earn free time at the end of a class period. This may be used as a study hall or to get extra homework help. The use of electronic devices will be an option occasionally with supervision.
Homework/Class work: Ample time is given every period for Life Skills Activities to be completed, if it is not finished during the class period, there will be time set aside the following day to finish the assignment. Effort and attitude is an important part of the Life Skills Activities grade (self advocacy and self determination). Homework is not assigned in Life Skills class.

Specific IEP goals and objectives for each student are integrated into this class as well. We will work on individual and group skills and you will be required to develop your own personal goals each quarter. Approximately half of the time in this class students will work on study skills and/or IEP goals and objectives. The rest of the time students will be expected to work on homework or another educational activity.
Study Skills is not exclusively to be used for homework. It is expected that all students will do homework at home.
